This Sunday I was planning to move my blog from wordpress.com to a designated hosting. I have been on wordpress free blog hosting for two weeks. I found a blog theme (template for the appearance) which was reasonably satisfactory for my needs at the time. Got a handle on the backend of the wordpress blogging interface and found it pretty intuitive and convenient for the purpose. So when I decided to move to designated hosting I thought it would be a breeze.
I was planning to have the same free theme, I was going to continue using free wordpress software as blog (content) management system-CMS. So I chose Godaddy as my hosting provider because they offer one-click installation of wordpress CMS, have good reputation, competitive rates for domain registration and hosting.
Nevertheless, the task turned out to be a bit more complicated than I expected.
- The theme did not transfer exactly the way it was on the free wordpress.com hosting.
- Some of the widgets I got used to in the backend are not standard part of WordPress CMS softaware, but were added there as enhancement to wordpress hosting. This means that now I have to find them on the internet and install manually.
- Some of the widgets of standard wordpress CMS I would like to get rid of, but have not figured out how yet.
With the workload at my MBA program – I already have plenty homework for all three classes, including some assignments that will give a part of my final grade in Uncertainty & Decision Making Class- I don’t really have time to play around and tweak it for now. So I will keep my blog at wordpress.com for a while longer, until I work out all the quirks at my new hosting. So keep coming to this blog at its current location until further notice.
