Today I took my first exam in this half-term. As I said earlier in my posts it had to be downloaded from the Blackboard and after completion submitted to the instructor via Blackboard too. Most of my instructors in MBA program use the Blackboard quite extensively. Of course, no one uses even half of the features available there, especially those of interactive communication, but I still really appreciate the flexability we are afforded thanks to the internet technologies. I am commenting on this ’cause I really appreciated having this exam done from home with coffee and snack breaks. Sorry for the degress.

Even though conditions of working on the exam were quite liberal, the exam itself made up for that easy mode. It was quite versatile and rather difficult, covering pretty much everything we have studied in the first part of the class. As usually, the exam started with a few easy teaser questions. Of course, I did easy questions easily, but then some heavy duty questions charged in. Overall the range of questions was regular staff: probabilities, normal distributions, binomial distributions, building decision tree.

Total of 14 questions, but they were very differently weighed. Some are just multiple choice. Ohters had a list of subquestions, so one question could realistically be called as five questons. Of course it was weighing more on the total scale. Then I had to use formulas and do calculations on other problems. The last one was to build a decision tree. I managed to plant that tree. Not sure it is perfectly viable though. We’ll see what professor thinks about it. The general structure was correct I believe, but some conditions I am not sure I put in all the right points.

Generally about the exam: the problem is not just to look up the formula. For me the issue was to wrap my mind around the problem and to try to understand where to stick that formula. Many questions were relatively easy, but they did not weigh much either. There were a couple of problems where I could not just understand the question – period. I just had to make a semi-educated guess.

Today was Sunday. Needless to say I did not have much of relaxation due on weekend because of review and actual taking of  the exam. Oh well, another day in part-time MBA paradise.

Anyways, I am done with it. Should reward myselft with something more than posting to the blog.
