The first week of classes in my Spring Term at GWSB is over. Now I have to concentrate on the homework assignments which are quite intense. Good that I have Monday off to spend more time on reading and solving cases for classes.
A short summary of the week. I am very pleased with both classes that I have selected for the first module in Spring Term. The subject matter is interesting, and both professors seem to be on the ball.
I have already joined two study groups, one for each class. Apparently I will have to do more work in group projects this module. This means it will be even more time consuming, since I would have to attend those groups, in person or via virtual means. Preliminary I already have a group meeting set for Tuesday night for my Global Perspectives class.
One little disappointment in the new term is not related to classes, but to the parking situation on campus. In fall term I was usually able to find street parking one or two times in a week with three classes. The remaining time(s), if I could not find outside parking, I had to park in the University garage. Garage parking is $8 after 5 PM. But street parking was free after 6.30 PM, and I did not usually come to campus before that. I had parking money budgeted for three times a week, so if I did not have to use parking garage I could save $8-16 a week.
When I came to campus this Wednesday I noticed that there were many available parking spaces on the streets. It did not seem right. When I stopped at one of the parking meters I noticed a new fee schedule attached to them. Now you have to pay until 10 PM, and there is 2 hours limit for parking. Bummer! I will either have to keep $6 in change and run to feed the meter on a class break or use the garage. Either way is a bummer.
Apparently the District of Columbia is going through a fiscal crunch and trying to make an extra buck off the parking meters. And students will have to pay for it one way or another, even if this money end up in the University’s garage management company pockets.
Other than that, I am excited to be back to school and resume my classes in part-time MBA program at GWSB. The first module looks very promising in terms of stuff that I will learn and the classroom experience. Hopefully I will also be able to raise my GPA to compensate for the fall term “short fall”.
