One of the books required in Managerial Accounting is the Course Pack that has been compiled by the professor himself. This is the first time I have the course pack required in my MBA program classes. That’s why I had a little surprise with it.
The course packs are apparently compiled/authored by a professor(s) in the university for a specific semester. I don’t know if it is usually done that way, but in this case it holds true. In this case the course pack is made for Spring 2010 term. With this little fact come some repercussions, namelymonetary. Since the course is printed on a very short production run its price is relatively high. Even though the pack is published through a third party and has an ISBN number, I was not able to find it anywhere on internet new or used. My intent to look it up on internet was an obvious attempt to get a better price then the publisher’s $83.50.
Finally I had to concede to the fact that I had to get it from the GW University bookstore. I swang by the campus on Saturday from my other errands. At least I hoped that I would be able to get the used book at some discount. In the store I found out that course packs are not accepted by the store for resale as used materials. I was told this was the store policy. So I had to buy it at full price. It seems like the first time in my MBA classes that I had to buy a textbook at full price. As they say, there is first time for everything.
Once I am done with this course I plan to keep my main textbook, but I could sell the course pack at a discount, if anyone needs it. I guess there will be no takers though.
